The Goat’s Gift: Unraveling Coffee’s Origins with Kaldi

In the ancient hills of Ethiopia, amidst vibrant greenery, lived Kaldi, a brave goatherd with a curiosity as boundless as the landscape he roamed. He noticed his goats acting strangely after munching on bright red berries from nearby bushes. Curious, he tasted them himself and felt an instant buzz. Excited, he shared his find with his wife, who suggested taking them to the monks.

Kaldi presented the berries to the chief Monk, but they were dismissed as devil’s work and thrown into the fire. To everyone’s surprise, the roasting beans emitted a heavenly aroma. The monks brewed the beans and found themselves invigorated. From then on, they drank it to stay alert during their nightly rituals.

it’s believed Ethiopian monks may have chewed on the berries for centuries before brewing them into a hot drink.
