3 Days of Tribal Experiences in Ethiopia's Omo River Valley

You'll be able to meet and interact with the fascinating Omo Valley tribes, such as the Mursi, who are famous for wearing big lip plates, camp at Hamar village, and learn about their culture, including their weeding rituals (bull jumping), and the Kara tribe will paint your face with intricate tribal patterns. DAY 1 JINKA--TURMI (130KM GRAVEL; 2HRS)

We will pick you up at Jinka Airport and drive straight to Turmi. Once we arrive in Turmi, we will proceed to the largest hamar hamlet to camp or stay in a homestay. Our team will ensure that all camps are prepared. Camping in Hamar village will enable you to get a closer, more immersive experience of their daily lives. Hamer women have prominent cheekbones and wear heavy copper necklaces with intricate handmade beads. The Hamers are gregarious and easily engaged. O/N HAMAR VILLAGE CAMPING/HOME STAY

DAY 2 : TURMI - KARA – DIMEKA -JINKA

Depart early, aiming to arrive while the sun is still soft. Head towards Korcho, one of the three villages of the Kara village, all of which are situated in a breathtaking setting on the banks of the Omo River. The kara is well-known for its adorning flowers as well as its creative and decorative body chalk painting. Many of the Kara women have pierced lips and inserted nails and pins. Learn more about the Kara tribe. Drinking coffee in their traditional hut, listen to their stories and interact with elders and tribeswomen. Then, return to Turmi for lunch. If our day falls on one of the market day ( Monday, Tuesday, or Saturday), we would pay visit to a weekly tribe market. The Omo Regional Market is a vibrant site where many tribes of the Omo Region get together to mingle, exchange what is going on around them, and sell and purchase items. People from Ari, Tsemai, Hamar, and Benna may be seen interacting in the vibrant marketplace, which is a terrific opportunity to people-watch. DAY 3: JINKA-MURSI-JINKA (120 KM GRAVEL; 4 HRS)

The day starts at 6:00 a.m. with a two-hour trip via gorgeous Mago National Park to see the legendary Mursi tribes, who reside spread along the Maki river to the Mago highlands. The Mursi are one of  indigenous ethnic group in Omo Valley. They inhabit in low-to-the-ground grass and leaf houses. Terra cotta jewelry looks great on women's enormously enlarged lower lips and ear lobes. Males are well-known for their hairstyles. You may be able to visit the ethnological museum upon your return to Jinka, which may provide conclusive information on the tribes.Then proceede to Jinka airport. Meal (B,L,D)
